International Road Safety Symposium from 27-31 October 2008 in Chania, Crete.

 

On 29 October at the International Road Safety Symposium, ‘Making Roads Safe...Towards Zero Fatalities on the Road’ which will be held in Chania Cultural Centre, in Crete,  from 27-31 October, will see the participation of Mr David Ward, Director General of the FIA Foundation and President of eSafetyAware and Mr Jacob Bangsgaard, Secretary General of eSafetyAware who were both invited from the Greek Automobile Association (ELPA) to make presentations on Road Safety and eSafety.

 

 

The Chania Symposium will be attended by international experts on best practice in road traffic injury prevention and will also coincide with the annual meetings of the International and European Road Assessment Programmes (iRAP & EuroRAP) which will be held in Chania from 27-31 October. The iRAP/EuroRAP meetings will bring together the world’s leading practioners in road infrastructure safety rating. Delegates from the annual meetings will also participate in the international symposium. A major feature of the Symposium will be the forthcoming OECD/International Transport Forum report ‘Towards Zero - Achieving Ambitious Road Safety Targets’ (due to be published in September).

 

 

The Chania meeting will also examine European road safety policies and targets to achieve a 50% reduction in fatalities as adopted by the European Commission and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. The symposium will also provide an opportunity to provide input into the first ever UN Ministerial Conference on global road safety due to be held in Moscow in November 2009. A special session will be devoted to tourism and road safety and to developments in Eastern and Central Europe.


During the week there will also be organised a road safety exhibition for the general public held in the Arsenal of Chania Harbour. eSafetyAware will be participating in this exhibition.
