Canadian stakeholders move forward on ESC campaigning

Close to 40 eSafety stakeholders assembled 22 October 2007 in Ottawa, Canada to discuss strategies for ESC deployment and awareness activities. The meeting was organised by Transport Canada and included representatives from the automotive industry, insurance companies, driving schools, automobile clubs, ministries, research sector, etc. Research and surveys show that a large number of lives can be saved if all cars in Canada are equipped with ESC but at the same time the Canadians are largely unaware of ESC and its benefits to road safety. This situation will change in the future as new activities will be launched to promote ESC.

Jacob Bangsgaard from the FIA Foundation participated in the meeting and presented the European ESC activities. The FIA Foundation invited the Canadian stakeholder to a closer cooperation with Europe to create a joint effort towards ESC awareness raising. The launch of joint activities will be discussed between the FIA Foundation and Transport Canada in the coming weeks.
